Description
In 1918, Major Foster (Gene Hackman) of the French Foreign Legion is recommended to accompany and protect the archaeological expedition being led by Marneau (Max Von Sydow). Foster, who regards Marneau's activities as little better than grave robbing, reluctantly obeys, but the excavation offends Arab leader El Krim (Ian Holm), who incites his tribe to attack the foreign interlopers.
