Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini write and direct this comedy drama based on the novel by Eleanor Henderson set in the 1980s. Asa Butterfield stars as Jude Keffy-Horn, a sixteen-year-old living with his adoptive mother Harriet (Julianne Nicholson) and sister Prudence (Nadia Alexander) in Vermont. He persuades his friend Teddy (Avan Jogia) to travel to New York City with him to visit Jude's father Les (Ethan Hawke) in the hope of rekindling their relationship. When they arrive, they are also greeted by Les's new girlfriend Di (Emily Mortimer) and her daughter Eliza (Hailee Steinfeld). Their trip ends in tragedy when Jude and Teddy attend a wild party with Eliza.
