Peter Mullan stars in this drama directed by Michael Winterbottom. In 1860s California, prospector Daniel Dillon (Mullan) has made a fortune in gold and is now running Kingdom Come, a small town in the heart of the Sierra mountains. He wants to turn the town into a thriving city and to this end he asks Donald Dalglish (Wes Bentley), an engineer plotting the course of the Pacific Railroad Expedition, to survey the surrounding area. However, when Daniel's wife Elena (Nastassja Kinski) and daughter Hope (Sarah Polley) arrive in town - both of whom he traded to another man in exchange for the rights to a goldmine years before - Daniel is overcome with guilt, and his reaction to their return sets in motion a disastrous chain of events.
