Kate Beckinsale stars in this adaptation of the novel by Stella Gibbons. Recently orphaned London society girl Flora Poste (Beckinsale) ignores the advice of her mentor Mrs Smiley (Joanna Lumley) and moves to the country to live on a farm with her relatives, the Starkadders. An aspiring novelist, Flora soon realises that the farm can provide plenty of material for her stories and she decides that she will bring her sense of order to the chaotic and humorous characters that she meets. The cast also includes Eileen Atkins, Stephen Fry and Ian McKellen.
