Description

This drama set in war-torn China in the 1930s is based on actual events. Englishman George Hogg (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as the Japanese army is invading China in 1937. Hogg is almost executed but is saved by a Chinese communist resistance fighter, Chen Hansheng (Chow Yun-Fat), and a courageous nurse, Lee Pearson (Radha Mitchell), who send him to an orphanage to lie low and help out. While there, he develops a fondness for the children and begins to teach them basic skills. When the orphanage is threatened by the Japanese forces, Hogg takes it upon himself to try and lead the 60 orphaned boys along the Silk Road to safety...
