Historical drama directed by Ennio de Concini and starring Alec Guinness. As the Allied forces encircle Berlin and its remaining defenders, beneath the devastation Hitler (Guinness) and his inner circle brood in an underground bunker. The doomed dictator and his followers swing between fury, despair and wilful ignorance of the failure of their war. Hitler invents impossible scenarios ensuring his victory and rejects the idea that his Third Reich has fallen day after day, until at last he can no longer avoid the truth.
