Description

Eric Steel co-writes and directs this gay-themed drama set in 1980s Brooklyn, New York. Based on the short story by David Bezmozgis, the film follows 17-year-old Russian Jew David (Samuel H. Levine) as he begins to explore his homosexuality despite the constraints placed upon him by his repressive family and their conservative immigrant community. When he moves in with his elderly grandfather Josef (Ron Rifkin), David befriends an East Village bartender and discovers the works of writer James Baldwin as the AIDS epidemic begins to sweep across the country.
