Description

1970s music industry-based drama starring Harvey Keitel as a music company A&R man trying to break new young act The Group (played by Earth, Wind and Fire). Keitel plays an ambitious young music producer, Buckmaster, ('the man with the golden ear'), whose job is to seek out new talent and produce hit records. Unfortunately, Buckmaster is surrounded by desperate shallow-minded record executives with a quick buck mentality and little ability to recognize true talent. Whilst in the middle of recording an inspirational album with The Group, Buckmaster is forced to divert and concentrate all his efforts on a talentless trio called The Pages. The pressures and corruption of the recording industry begin to weigh him down, and ultimately force him to make crucial decisions about the success of The Pages and The Group. Ironically, the soundtrack of this film about the untrustworthy and corrupt record industry was what launched Earth Wind and Fire into stardom.
