Double bill of horror thrillers. Written and directed by Neil Marshall, 'The Descent' (2005) follows six female friends on a caving expedition. When the passage behind them collapses, the group are trapped in an unexplored cave system. As they attempt to locate a way out, they discover a den of human and animal bones and are attacked by a race of murderous humanoid creatures who have adapted to live in the darkness. Desperately fighting to survive, will any of them escape? In the sequel, 'The Descent: Part 2' (2009), after Sarah Carter (Shauna MacDonald) is rescued from the Appalachian caves where several of her friends perished, she is made to go back and help to try and locate any other survivors. Sheriff Vaines (Gavan O'Herlihy) is not wholly convinced by Sarah's version of events, especially with regard to the creatures she claims she and her friends encountered in the caves, and so he insists on the expedition. However, it soon becomes clear that every awful thing Sarah told him was true...
