American drama starring Maggie Gyllenhaal. Lisa Spinelli (Gyllenhaal) is dissatisfied with her life as a mother, wife and kindergarten teacher on Staten Island. She attends a poetry class, led by Simon (Gael García Bernal), as a means of artistically expressing herself, but her talents are quickly dismissed by her peers and mentor. However, when she overhears one of her pupils, Jimmy (Parker Sevak), reciting his own poem she steals it for herself and uses it to wow her classmates. Convinced that Jimmy is a child genius, Lisa becomes determined to help him harness his unique gift, however her behaviour begins to cross the normal boundary between student and teacher.
